I have metal cabinets in my kitchen that were a cream color, until I painted them red. I dont know what I was thinking. Now, I want to strip the red and repaint them white. How can I do that? Or, if there is something else I can do to update them.

yes use a realllllly good primer such as killz, then repaint them.. very easy to do and cheap as long as you get a white good primer 1st!!!!
You can silicone-glue-on any finish you like–available in building stores, or you can refinish.
“Refinishing your kitchen cabinets is the most economical solution for those who do not want to spend time and money on a big remodeling job. Pricing for repainting or refinishing will depend on the type of paint and method you will use. All wood and plywood cabinets can be repainted. Metal cabinets, are difficult to paint because they require special paints, and can peel and chip with normal paint.
Before you begin painting, remove the doors and drawer fronts from the base cabinets so you can get an even coat of paint. Clean the cabinets of grease and other kitchen contaminates; if they aren’t properly cleaned, you will not be able to apply the paint properly. A sprayed-on finish is recommended for repainting cabinets. It gives the best uniform coverage and leaves no marks from the application. You can paint cabinet shelves and the interiors, but do not paint the inside of the doors. Oil based primer works best because the paint sticks to it. The types of paint to use are gloss and semi-gloss, which are also oil-based, paints. If you choose water-based paint, make sure to get 100 percent acrylic.”
Good luck.
Well, I have seen people put trim around them, but in a little bit from the edge to make em look like real wood cabinets, and there is some kinds of teqnique to paint em to look like wood. Not sure what else you could do.
If you decide the red works you could always buy a stencil w/ the theme of your choice .
There are even stick on appliques.w/ many different themes.
If you decide to change the color you could still use this idea.
Have Fun!
Do not strip. If you remove the paint down to the bare metal, they will rust like an old Chevy. Sand them down to dull the shine then coat with a good quality primer. Then paint.
