We are moving to our 1st home, unfortunately the previous owners PAINTED the wood kitchen cabinets a bright red! The counter tops are a dark (almost black) and we have purchased stainless steel and black appliances. There is an opening in the wall leading to the dining room and the dining room wall is painted burnt orange (which i love). I NEED HELP! what color to repaint the cabinets and what for the kitchen walls? I am have trouble coming up with a kitchen “theme” PS i love reds, purples, oranges together.

i think the cabinets would look great in a matte black color or glossy white. Paint the kitchen the same orange or a shade off and use pops of red and purple in your accents. I never thought to use those colors but I like them.
crazy people I cant believe they painted the cabinets.
Sounds like a fall-color scheme- deep & bold. Sticking with blk counter, stainless & blk appliances, and orange wall (which sounds AWESOME to me too)– hmm… paint can react unexpectedly to previous paint surfaces so I’d just remove the red paint using a gel stripper & see what there is to work with underneath before deciding about the cabinets. Depending on what portions of wall would be covered and how dramatic you’d like, and if there should be a separation of kitchen and dining areas…. There are so many factors. If you can take a digital image of each wall to bring up on your computer in your paint program and play around with colors to get a more visual impression. Hope that helps. Good luck.
white
I would go with green or purple
Go to this site and upload a pic of your kitchen and “paint” away.

You could choose the first kitchen and paint the wall above the fridge the red color of your cabinets and see what the other colors look like with it.
I have red cabinet doors with the cabinets painted black. The countertops are black and white checked tile and the walls are silvery blue gray. The floor is painted with gray garage epoxy paint with the color chips of blue, black and white in it. Wanted more of an industrial look. Have white appliances but am considering stainless.
i know you get points for answering but i really do not care what color you paint your walls or cabinets. this is by far one of the most annoying questions on this site. paint it any color or combinations of colors you desire, i do not have to look at it!
I would suggest you paint the cabinets a soft antique white leaning toward a cream. Look into doing a wash over the white so they look older. Look at your hardware too. That can change the whole look of the kitchen. Find the orange in the dining room on a paint sample from Home Depot and use a lighter color from the same paint strip. The lighter version will tie the two together without being too matchy! Good Luck!
You must balance the burnt orange with your kitchen colors. I would theme the kitchen to a green-based tone with ivory accents. The green-based will ‘lead’ to burnt orange and will blend well with silver. Paint over the wooden cabinets with green tones. May be a beautiful leaf green as shown in the image http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_CwOuRincuSI/SOyqZ3CftLI/AAAAAAAAHWE/S5c2ptWcN2c/s400/Picture+21.png or a light teal like this http://www.starmarkcabinetry.com/images/photos/e330c0e1fa4e3ee0c3dec4a94f0a55c4.jpg
Have fun!
purple!!
I’m with the majority, the burnt orange is something to work with definitely, stainless steel, in my opinion, would look AMAZING with that color. If you like a bolder look, go for a 2 toned cabinet, black and a variation on the orange wall color would look great. Stay with the black counter top if you are thinking reds purples and oranges. But please, for every ones sake, don’t paint your cabinets purple, that’s an accent color
First of all Congrats on your 1st home. Since I love to do decor this is what I would suggest. If you want the wood cabinets again strip the red paint off of them, sand down, and restain them. If you want the cabinets painted then this is an idea that I think would be really cute. With the stainless steel and black appliances I would paint the walls a bright yellow, with white cabinets, and since you like red, then you could go the Apple or Rooster theme. Also, this would blend in with your dining room. I think this would look darling and so cute. Good Luck and Enjoy your home.
